Board Visits Chief Ladiga Trail

On June 11, 2010 the Greenway District Board traveled to the Chief Ladiga Rail-Trail and were hosted by East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission in Anniston.

The Chief Ladiga Trail is Alabama’s first extended rails-to-trails project and connects to Atlanta by way of the Silver Comet trail.  The Trail crosses 2 counties – Calhoun and Cleburne – and 4 municipalities – Piedmont, Jacksonville, Weaver and Anniston.

Our newly formed Five Mile Creek Greenway District is in place to manage the 17 mile Cane Creek line in northwest Jefferson County. This was a great opportunity to see how a rail trail can enhance the quality of life for its citizens.

Thanks to: Piedmont Mayor Brian Young, Trail Manager Tommy Allison and East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission ExecutiveDirector Bill Curtis and Principal Planner Jack Plunk.
