The Blueprint for Greenways in the Heart of Alabama was completed in December 2011 through funding from the Building Communities program at the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham.  The Blueprint for Greenways is a manual for implementation of Greenway Plans Using Five Mile Creek Greenway as an example. Weekend of learning for outdoor enthusiasts planned

The Alabama Hiking Trail Society (AHTS) will be hosting their annual statewide conference March 9-11, 2012, at the Alabama 4H Center in Columbiana. The three day event will focus on hiking and backpacking in Alabama, the state’s beautiful outdoor landscapes and wildlife, and history.

“While the weekend will focus on hiking and backpacking, there will be something for all outdoor enthusiasts,” said Joe Cuhaj, President of AHTS. “Topics will include flora, fauna, history, destinations, protecting the environment, and much more. The event kicks off with a meeting of the state’s Alabama Trails Commission which attendees are welcome to be a part of.” http://con2012.hikealabama.org/

Brookside Greenway Festival 2011

Outdoor Festival with archery, DCNR pellet gun safety, duck race, horseback riding, ATV safety, Fun Run with prizes, desserts from St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, music, DCNR fishing pole casting, canoe rides, food vendors with carnival food – funnel cakes and all.
